Did you know that the P&C run a second-hand uniform shop at NBSC Manly Campus? It is managed by two parent volunteers. Manly Campus students recently chatted with Kitty and Fiona to find out more about how it works.

Why do you enjoy doing this?

K: It’s very sociable meeting students and parentsfrom the school and being able to help them out with uniforms. Big event days like Year 7 Orientation Day are busy but fun and rewarding.

F: I enjoy working with Kitty and getting to know the teachers and other school staff and there is a great sense of satisfaction in giving back to the school and students.

What is the most popular item?

K & F: Sports zip jackets and trackpants are always in demand.

What happens to the uniforms you don’t sell?

K: They are recycled, all clothing is brought by Fiona and I to H&M at Warringah Mall.

F: Non-uniform items are donated to local charity shops.

What’s the strangest item that has been donated?

F: We received a box of prepared slides for use with a microscope, we passed them on to the science department.

What does this contribute to the school?

K & F: All the profits go directly to the P&C for projects benefiting the students and staff. Because there are few overheads and it is operated entirely by volunteers, this adds up to almost $10,000 per year. It benefits the environment as everything is reused or recycled. This has resulted in tonnes of Manly Campus uniforms being kept out of landfill.

All families can benefit from quality uniforms at approximately one third of retail prices.

Uniform fashion trends: what is the new popular item?

K: This year the trending item is definitely the V-neck wool jumper. Many of the senior girls are rocking this, but it is no longer available at Pickles.

We have plenty in stock, in almost new condition for only $20 (approximately $80 new).

How can the school community support the uniform shop?

K: Come and visit us (in the canteen area) and see the stock for yourselves. You can pick up a few extra items and save.

F: Please consider donating your good quality uniforms to us. We only exist due to the generosity of the NBSC Manly Campus families.

We are always in need of sport zip jackets and track pants, senior polos and long navy winter pants.

Finally K & F: A huge thank you to all the students, families and staff who continue to support us.

The Second-Hand Uniform Shop is open on Orientation Days, and on the 1st Wednesday & 3rd Thursday of the month, 8.15 am – 9.15 am.
