P&C Funded Projects
In only the last few years, the P&C has donated almost half a million dollars back into the school. Below is just a snapshot of some of the notable projects the P&C has recently funded.
Bike Racks
On 12th August 2024, new "Northern Beaches weather suited" racks with a capacity for 36 bikes of any type were installed under cover beside the teacher’s car park.
This was achieved thanks to the hard work of many people, particularly Michelle (a G22 parent) who sourced a grant for us and the remaining balance for materials and installation was fully funded by the P&C. The school have noted a marked increase in bike usage since the racks were installed.

Learning Hub & Wellbeing
The new Learning Hub and Wellbeing area in the Library was officially opened by librarian Fiona Brien, learning advisor, Lauren Tie and P&C President Simon Cahill.
This new facility was built out during the last school holidays and made possible, partially by P&C funding. The team has a variety of tools and resources for students.

Council Grant for Saplings
P&C Sustainability team have been successful in receiving 50 saplings for the school from Northern Beaches Council Schools Tree Day program. Big thanks to Alex and Patti.

New Multi Purpose Space / Gym
In early 2020, Manly School had not received significant funding or infrastructure upgrades in years. The only major projects, a library extension and stage refurbishment, were fully funded by parent contributions.
At the time, the main concerns were the lack of space for large HSC exam cohorts (e.g. English, Maths) and for all-school assemblies.
Our community sought funding for a new hall but, after working with the Department of Education and local supporters, it became clear that state funding was available only for a multi-purpose gymnasium. We shifted focus to make the most of this opportunity.
The gap between state funding and the gym's cost was covered by school funds, parent contributions, P&C donations, and additional grants secured in collaboration with NBSC campus teams. Much of the work was supported by parents, to whom we owe a great deal.
Through the hard work of the school staff and P&C, we maximised the build, adding features like a larger footprint, seating, and extra rooms. As a result, we not only kept our existing hall but also gained a fantastic new multi-purpose hall and gym space, which opened in 2023.

Plasma Cutter
Technology education has always been a challenge for schools to keep up to date.
With the help of a P&C secured Community Building grant the team fully funded the purchase, installation and maintenance of s state of the art CNC plasma cutter.
Students are constantly seeking to develop innovative solutions to design problems and this CNC plasma cutter technology will be extremely helpful in providing opportunities for our young people.
The equipment is used to manufacture projects and design solutions from junior students through to Year 12 HSC major projects.

Outdoor Seating & Shade Program
P&C Grants team have been successful in receiving $25,000 in the Community Building Partnership grant round for the school’s Outdoor Seating and Shade program. Big thanks to Patti and team from the P&C. (image reflects what the team are looking at)

Canteen Technology
Celebrating 1 year of card payments in our school canteen. Nancy (canteen co-ordinator), Mel (canteen manager), Simon (P&C), Brenda (canteen assistant manager), Branko (Manly TAS faculty). Also acknowledging the generous donation of a new laptop from the school to our canteen team. And a big thank you to Ben for making it all happen.

Dance Flooring
The P&C funded temporary vinyl dance flooring for the Hall and Gym to support dance performances and HSC exams. While the Performance Space is the main venue, it's sometimes too small. The Hall and Gym floors were unsuitable, raising safety concerns. Vinyl flooring offers a safer, more comfortable surface, matching the Performance Space and providing a professional environment for exams.

Defibrillator
In 2023 a new school parent introduced the team to an Australian Post grant. Fast forward 12 months and we now have a new defibrillator providing additional safety for our school staff and students in our new gym. A fabulous example of how valuable all our ideas can be to the school leveraging your own area of expertise.

Vertical Garden
The fabulous Vertical Garden in the school Quad was a truly collaboratively effort between the students, the school and the P&C. It was a student generated idea, and the Sustainability WG were immediately on board to support. All installation and initial maintenance was fully funded by the P&C.
